Article II. MEMBERSHIP

(i) Eligibility: Membership shall be open to any person in the world who willingly supports the mission of Maendeleo, as stated in Article I, Section (ii). Furthermore, one must be at least 18 years of age to obtain official membership.

(ii) Rights: All members of Maendeleo shall have the same rights. These shall include the ability to:

Vote for members of the Board of Directors
Vote on issues brought to the member by the Board
Run for an elected Board position
Join one or more committees
Propose new initiatives
Propose amendments to the organization’s By-Laws
Attend public meetings
Fundraise for Maendeleo within guidelines set by the Board

(iii) Annual Dues: Membership dues shall be set by the Board on an annual basis. Rules governing the payment of dues shall be set by the Board and communicated to all members.

Membership dues for fiscal year 2006 shall be observed as follows:

$120 / year for non-students in the U.S.
$60 / year for students in the U.S. (includes all categories of students)
$60 / year for non-students in Tanzanians
$30 / year for students in Tanzania

Membership dues for individuals outside of these categories shall be determined by the Board. The Board shall have the power to make exceptions for individuals seeking membership, especially persons residing in Tanzania.

(iv) Categories: There shall have a flat structure with no membership categories beyond the distinction of Advisory Board and Board of Directors.

(v) Resignation and Removal by Cause:

a) Resignation – Membership or affiliation with Maendeleo may be voluntarily terminated at any time by communication of such desire in writing.

b) Removal by Cause – Suspension or removal of an individual member shall occur by action of the Board for causes based upon actions inimical to the fundamental interests or function of Maendeleo, or due to failure to comply, in a satisfactory manner, with the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of Maendeleo
