sarah MatujaMy five-year journey at Catholic University and Allied Sciences (CUHAS) has been adventurous and a bumpy road as well. I would like to thank God for His unending blessings. I have made a lot of remarkable memories both academically and socially, in fact I feel honored to have been trained at CUHAS.

Throughout my training from my basic to clinical years at the university there has been a lot of support from the teachers/ lecturers who were willing to teach and pass on the knowledge. Although one of the best times I had was when I started my clinical years back in 2011 in my junior rotations, it was another level of experience. I must admit it was challenging transferring the basic knowledge to the clinical setting nonetheless it was fun getting to interact with the patients and learning new things. They say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going and so I finally made it to where I am. Honestly speaking, I was not expecting the scholarship award that I received. My dad always told me, Sky is the limit and there is no limit to anyone’s potential so I gave it my best shot. Studied to the best of my abilities and had the best discussion group members. We supported each other as a family through thick and thin.It would be unfair if I didn’t mention my mentor who took her time to advise and support me both morally and academically. I would like to acknowledge Dr. Hyasinta Jaka for her kindness and time.

The five hundred dollars award came by surprise but the first thing on my mind was to invest in it in my future big project that’s under plan for the moment. I have had the idea in mind but I was still sorting out funds to get me started right away, fortunately with the quick bonus awarded I can now start small. My long-term goal has been to start my own diagnostic centre in the next five years. The centre will be located at Tegeta in Dar es salaam, Tanzania and apart from diagnostic medicine it will also deal with prevention of non communicable diseases.

Special thanks to my Parents Prof .W.B.P Matuja (my greatest mentor) and Mrs.E. Matuja ( my best friend) my siblings, relatives and friends for their love and support.

I would to encourage others that hard work pays. The sleepless nights and all the sacrifices made were so worth it. The principles that guided me to be the person that I am today are to be focused, dedicated and disciplined. Nothing comes easy, you want something big you need to go an extra mile to earn it. Let’s keep walking, see you at the top!

2014-03-09 09.27.33 (2)My name is Doris Samwel from Mwanza Tanzania. I am a 3rd year student in Catholic University of health and Allied Sciences -(CUHAS) My desire in studying medicine is to serve peoples life from unhealthy conditions through mass education to prevent the occurrence of diseases, early detection or diagnosis and treatment together with supportive treatment.
I felt very good when I received this award and it was awesome, it has really help me to finish pay my tuition fee of this year 2013/2014 and buy a new laptop which helps me in studying for now. I think the system your using is quite good for both selection and presentation of the award its fantastic and it has to be in this way.

The major challenge that I face in studying medicine is time, everything I do I have to keep my time very well but everything is going to be fine. After finishing my studies I want to move on with my postgraduate studies I need to specialize in and become a neurosurgeon.

I would like to thank all people who donated to Maendeleo may God bless you abundantly and your families and may you succeed in everything you do, touch or think.
